Simple workouts, complicated names!

First things first - we call our HIIT workouts HiiT. When we starting experimenting with them, we thought the lowercase letters looked nifty and still do!

HiiT workouts are not complicated but because they contain lots of level changes, they are cumbersome to describe; so we have stumbled into some naming conventions. We list the shuttles in each workout too, just to be 100% clear. Let’s look at an example.

HT42 - the unique name of the workout; it always starts with ‘HT’ and is followed by a unique number.

S6 I2 E20 - this combination is used to describe the initial part of some HiiT workouts;

  • ‘S’ represents ‘start’ and S6 simply means the workout starts at level 6.

  • ‘I’ represents ‘increase’ and refers to how levels change as the workout progresses. I2 means levels increase by two, so if the first level is 6, the next level will be 8, followed by 10, and so on.

  • ‘E’ represents ‘end’ and refers to when the 'increase' ends. E20 means levels stop increasing by two after level 20 is completed.

So S6 I2 E20 represents levels: 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20. [22:x4:R13] - this combination is used the describe the 'rest and intense' part of HiiT workouts;

  • The first number(s) after the square bracket indicates the intense level(s) in the workout. 22 means that the intense level in this workout is level 22.

  • The second number preceded by ‘x’ indicates how many times the intense level(s) is repeated. Here x4 means that level 22 is repeated four times.

  • The final number preceded by ‘R’ indicates the ‘rest’ level that is repeated between each intense level. Here R13 means that level 13 is the rest level.

So [22:x4:R13] represents levels: 22, 13, 22, 13, 22, 13, 22. And lastly, HiiT workouts are grouped into categories. Hopefully these make sense too;

Express – levels always increase and some are skipped.

e.g. HT140 - S2 I2 E22 Levels: 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22

Express; Intense; Rest – see ‘Express’ above, followed with alternating intense and rest levels.

e.g. HT47 - S6 I2 E18 [20:x6:R13]

Levels: 6 8 10 to 18 then 20 13 20 13 20 13 20 13 20 13 20

Express; Rising Intense; Rest – as above, but with intense levels that increase.

e.g. HT05 - S4 I2 E16 [18-20:x2:R13]

Levels: 4 6 8 to 16 then 18 13 18 13 19 13 19 13 20 13 20

Rest; Intense – no express component, simply alternating levels of rest and intense.

e.g. HT97 - [20:x8:R13]

Levels: 13 20 13 20 13 20 13 20 13 20 13 20 13 20 13 20

Capish? We hope this is clear; when in doubt, simply look at the levels!
